30 airportbusiness November 2014 UNDER DID YOU KNOW? MEYER competes in triathlons. Jesse Meyer: Loves travel and building relationships As a young boy, Jesse Meyer laid on the grass watching the planes overhead and guessing where they were headed. Years later it became his job to not only know where the planes were headed but also their make and model. Meyer says he chose aviation as a career because of his love of travel and passion for building relationships, which are closely linked in the aviation industry. He channelled this love for airports into an MBA from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, during which time he interned at Vancouver International Airport as part of its Retail and Passenger Services team. From Vancouver, he moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta, to be part of the exciting growth taking place at Canada's oil sands with the Fort McMurray Airport Authority. As the commercial manager at Canada's fastest growing airport, Meyer leads development, implementation and delivery of revenue gen- erating activity, business development initiatives, air service devel- opment, concessions management, marketing communications and stakeholder relations. Meyer is also director with Fort McMurray Tourism and a member of Airports Council Interna- tional-North American and the American Association of Airport Executives.
