Vol. 28, No. 5 May 2014 R emember when the U.S. basketball team took the gold at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona? What mattered most to viewers was not that this team dominated the Olympic com- petition, beating its opponents by an average of 44 points. Instead it was watching what was called, the Dream Team—the first Olympic team to include the greats among NBA stars—in action. Here at Airport Business we like to think that we've assembled our own Dream Team in the aviation world with the introduction of our editorial advisory board. We are pleased to announce we've put together a board of highly visible, recognized and influential experts willing to position their reputation, knowledge and energy with the magazine to lead the publication toward the future. As you can see in our write-up about these note- worthy individuals on Pages 18-20, the board is com- prised of high-level aviation professionals who are active, highly productive and visible figures within the industry. This notable panel of experts brings a variety of backgrounds and ideas to the fold. We have representatives from different-sized airports, individuals with international airport experience, experts with FBO and fuel knowledge, and a technology focus. Our intent for this board is to have more than just a list of names on the masthead of the publication, as is so often the case with publication advisory boards. Our members have agreed to participate in our plan- ning sessions as we head into 2015, provide ongoing critiques of the magazine, and even to produce editorial for our pages in the months to come. We are always seeking new members for the edi- torial advisory board team, so please do not hesitate to contact me to suggest new names or to offer your own expertise to the board. And, even if you feel you do not have time to participate on the board, please feel free to contact me any time with feedback and editorial suggestions. Please join me in welcoming our editorial advisory board members! It is an honor and a privilege to have them on board. AB Names Its Dream Team The notable industry professionals on Airport Business' editorial advisory board WHEN A KID CAN BREACH AIRPORT SECURITY… This is a scenario that Òcould hap- pen anywhere, at any airport,Ó said Lezley Mix, airport security coordi- nator, from Kansas City International Airport, after a 15-year-old boy stowed away inside the wheel hub of a Hawaiian Airlines plane at San Jose Mineta International Airport. The resulting review of this incident shows just how easily it can happen. The TSA inspected and improved the airport's fence line security, disclosed TSA Administrator John S. Pistole. Then there's the matter of the video from the airport security system itself. While airport officials say they do not have a video of the 15-year-old climbing the fence, they do have film of an unidentified intruder on the tar- mac. However, no one monitoring the closed-circuit video (CCTV) system saw it. Currently the TSA is investigating a Ònumber of opportunitiesÓ for improving security along the fence line, including armed officers, K-9 patrols, a second fence, and more CCTV coverage. But all of these things require funding, or they will become yet another unfunded mandate for airports. airb_4-5_Editor.indd 4 5/2/14 9:25 AM
