Note that while passenger traffic was down 4.4 percent, total net revenues (without taxes and federal fees) declined just 2.5 percent, and the average fare paid was up 2.2 percent. This is reflective of the overall strategy of reducing capacity to increase unit revenues. Airports across the United States should prepare for further cuts in flights and seats, and the effects this will have on airport revenue streams.
