6 airportbusiness December 2018/January 2019 INDUSTRY UPDATE FAA Opens New Atlanta Flight Operations Facility The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Nov. 16, dedicated the new Atlanta Flight Operations Facility at Cobb County International Airport. The 32,050-square-foot facility includes a 23,100-square-foot hangar that will accommodate six BE-300 aircraft that support Flight Program Operations flight inspection mission. The facility also includes shop space for aircraft maintenance and repair and administrative space that can accommodate 26 FAA employees. Matt Wenham Named 2019 ACC Board of Directors Chair Matt Wenham, group manager of aviation engineering & construction for C&S Companies was elected chair of the 2019 Airport Consultants Council Board of Directors. Wenham assumed the position at the ACC membership meeting Nov. 13, during the 40th ACC Annual Conference & Exposition in Bermuda. Fentress Architects to Design Nashville’s New International Arrival Facility The Nashville International Airport (BNA) Board of Commissioners awarded the Hensel Phelps | Fentress Architects Progressive Design-Build Team the new $327 million Terminal Lobby and International Arrivals Facility. Upon completion, the new IAF will strengthen the airport’s circulation by creating a central core that optimizes and facilitates passenger flow. SFO, TSA and United Airlines Unveil New Automated Screening Lanes The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) jointly with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and United Airlines on Nov. 14, unveiled new state-of-the-art checkpoint technology ahead of the busy holiday travel season. Located in SFO’s Terminal 3, the new Automated Screening Lanes incorporate innovative technology that enhances security while offering improved efficiency at security checkpoints. Kevin Wilkerson Joins Epic Fuels Epic Fuels announced that industry veteran Kevin Wilkerson has joined the company’s leadership team as its new vice president of transaction processing. Wilkerson will be focusing on the continued growth and development of the company’s fuel payment cards, the Epic Card and the Signature Flight Support Card and the company’s transaction processing platform. New Hotel Breaks Ground at Tri-Cities Airport Business Center On Nov. 5, the Tri-Cities Airport, A-1 Hospitality, Congressman Dan Newhouse, and Visit Tri-Cities broke ground on a new airport hotel. The four-story, business-traveler focused hotel will host 99 rooms, indoor pool, fitness center, boardroom and a fast casual bistro serving as a coffee bar by day and cocktail bar in the evenings. Sally the Robot Lands in Buffalo Travelers flying in and out of Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) can now enjoy fresh food from Sally the Robot. Sally, created by Silicon Valley-based food robotics company Chowbotics, offers thousands of custom meal and snack options from any combination of up to 22 ingredients, in addition to chef-crafted, pre-programmed bowls. Vivica Brown Named Fraport’s VP of Operations at Nashville Airport Fraport USA announced the appointment of Vivica Brown, Esq. IAP, as its vice president of operations for the concessions program at Nashville International Airport (BNA). Prior to her recent role as vice president and general counsel of Brakkam Aviation Management in Atlanta, Brown served both as a former chief commercial officer and chief legal officer for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Master ConcessionAir Complete Two Projects at MIA Master ConcessionAir (MCA) recently brought renowned brands Desigual and TOUS to Miami International Airport, creating exciting retail space and more opportunities for travelers.
