36 airportbusiness November 2014 UNDER Liz Grzechowiak: From restaurants and retail to aviation Assistant Director, Concessions and Business Development Metropolitan Airports Commission Age: 34 Years in Aviation: 1 Operations Manager Savannah Airport Commission Age: 36 Years in Aviation: 17 Liz Grzechowiak landed in aviation because of a job opportunity shared by a friend. Now she's happy to be in such an exciting and invigorating work environment. With more than a decade of corporate management experience, Grzechowiak served as an executive within the retail, hospitality and marketing sectors in Operations, Communications and Public Relations. Grzechowiak's wealth of experience includes her current role as Assistant Director of Concessions and Business Development at the Metropolitan Airports Commission, as well as the previous Regional Director of Operations for Leeann Chin Inc. and Director of Operations/Marketing Director for Phamous Restaurant Group. In these roles, Grzechowiak has successfully developed and designed marketing collateral, sales strategy, ad copy and campaigns; while cultivating a rich network of business repre- sentatives, clients and international vendors. EDMISTEN loves horror and scary things, be it Halloween, haunted houses, movies and books. Colette Edmisten: Her career was chosen when she saw the fighter jets In the 7 th grade, Colette Edmisten vacationed with her family in Colorado where she toured the Air Force Academy. She remembers not being completely thrilled about the tour but recalls it was conducted by a senior cadet who was graduating and leaving for flight school. Edmisten remembers being absolutely mesmerized by the cadet and the passion he had for aviation and flying planes, and then she saw the fighter jets. From that point on she knew she was going to become a pilot and work in aviation. She studied Aviation Flight and Management at Southern Illinois University and received her private pilot's license at 19. She completed the SIU flight program; and received her commercial pilot's license with instrument and multi-engine ratings. She completed her graduate degree in Aviation Safety at Central Missouri State University then went to work at the Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority in Florida, followed by the Glynn County Airport Commission in Georgia. She currently works for the Savannah Airport Commission and is immediate past president of the Georgia Airports Association.
