November 2014 airportbusiness 33 UNDER James Long: When faced with a tough decision, choose both! Some choices are just hard to make. James Long says he spent his entire life fascinated by aviation and great feats of civil engineering. When the time to choose a career path arrived, he found he could not choose between them, so at U.C. Berkeley he pursued civil en- gineering and on the side earned his pilot's license. Long has been with HNTB Corporation for six years working as a Civil Engineer in its Aviation Infrastructure group. Through his time at HNTB, Long has played critical roles on a wide variety of projects including facili- ties management, planning, design and construction management. With his experience as a private pilot, Long's passion and keen un- derstanding of aviation has afforded him the opportunity to work closely with clients and contractors on very complex projects. His affinity for aviation and techni- cal foundation has enabled Long to work on terminal planning up and down the West Coast. He has held lead design roles for diverse aviation projects at commercial, military and general aviation airfields throughout the Southwest. He continues to grow in his role as a project manager within the group, taking on significant responsibilities beyond his tenure. DID YOU KNOW?
