6 airportbusiness May 2014 INDUSTRY NEWS INDUSTRY NEWS Denver International Airport's (DIA) fleet operation has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Fleets in North America. Currently in its 10th year, the annual ranking of the Top 100 Fleets recognizes and rewards peak performing fleet operations in North America and encourages performance improvements within the fleet industry. "In 2013, Denver International Airport's Fleet Management Section worked on numerous proj- ects to improve our efficiency, customer service, financial management and environmental leader- ship," says Denver's Deputy Manager of Aviation for Airport Infrastructure Management, Dave LaPorte. "Our Fleet Management Section employ- ees embrace quality and efficiency in everything they do and we are very proud to be recognized as one of the Top 100 Fleets in North America." DIA's fleet includes approximately 1,750 different vehicles and equipment ranging from large snow removal vehicles, Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicles, forklifts, cranes and light duty vehicles to smaller equipment such as concrete saws. Approximately 29 percent of DIA's vehicle fleet is powered with alternative fuels such as com- pressed natural gas (CNG) and DIA's fleet man- agement division currently provides CNG testing services to approximately 300 vehicles operated by tenant airlines. In December 2013, DIA was one of 29 large fleet owners that committed to accelerating deployment of natural gas vehicles and fueling infrastructure in Colorado by sign- ing a memorandum of understanding during the Colorado Governor's Natural Gas Vehicle Summit. In 2013, DIA also obtained a Regional Air Quality Council grant which allowed the airport to remanufacture three loaders more than 10 years old. By rebuilding the equipment, DIA was able to extend the life of the vehicles and save approximately $158,000 in upgrade costs without sacrificing quality. DIA ranked as No. 37 out of 38,000 eligible public fleets in North America and was the only airport fleet ranked in the top 50. For the complete list, visit http://the100bestfleets.com/. Denver International Airport Named One Of The Top 100 Fleets In North America Landmark Aviation Purchases Ross Aviation Fresh on the heels of news earlier this month that it had purchased the three UK locations of RSS Jet Centre, Landmark Aviation made an even bigger splash when it announced that it had agreed to purchase Colorado-based Ross Aviation. Ross, whose 20 FBOs operate under their own individual names, quietly rose to become the fifth largest chain of aviation service providers in the United States since its launch a decade ago. The chain added five facilities over the past year alone. The transaction includes the Ross-owned FBOs in Denver, Colo.; Santa Fe, N.M.; and Miami, Fla.; as well as the six Bradley Pacific locations in Hawaii. The acquisition will increase Landmark's roster to 60 domestic locations and 76 overall. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed and the deal is expected to close in the second half of the year, pending approval of authorities. Denver International Airport's fleet includes 1,750 different vehicles, from large snow removal equipment like those pictured here to light-duty vehicles. airb_6-9_News.indd 6 5/2/14 9:36 AM
